The thread was prompted by someone almost bumping into me - the only reason we didn't is because I stopped and he didn't!

Why Did Ray Franz Still Go On Field Service?

in his book he says he still went out on field service.. why would he do that?

i'm finding it so hard to go out, i only take my bible.. .

I think some people have a tendency to put Ray Franz up on a pedalstal as if he was the perfect exJW.

He was just a normal guy who happened to find himself in a unique situation. He left and decided to write a book about it, chronicling his exit. But he wasn't perfect. So his exit isn't necessarily as perfect as we might think it should have been.

Was our own exit perfect? Or did we occasionally make mistakes? Aren't there times we think, why didn't I see that sooner? Why did we say such and such? All of it is part of our growth as we leave the JW world.

So was the same as with Ray Franz' exit from JWism.

After all, hindsight is always 20/20.

I'm walking around the street or shopping mall. People almost walk into me. Umm, can't you see that a person is only inches away from your body?

I send emails, private messages to people I helped a year ago. Spent hours chatting to them over the net sorting thru their problems. Now they don't have the time of day to just say hello.

You post in a thread. People comment on everyone else's posts but yours.

I post a thread about feeling invisible. Chances are that this will die a quick death just like other threads I've started.

Nevermind.

Another day, another apostate. Here's my story.

been lurking for a bit, and feel safe enough now to tell my story (condensed).. i'm a third-generation born-in, but my parents were inactive for most of my upbringing.

this means i got the worst of both worlds--no worldly friends (home schooled all but grades 2-3), no witness friends (since we never went to the hall except for memorial), and a generally isolated upbringing in a tiny, tiny town.

needless to say, my emotional, social, and personal growth were stunted.

My wife goes to my cousin's church to see her get baptized.

my cousin has been messaging us on facebook, asking me if i would come to her church to see her get baptized.

i tend to ignore my cousin because of a bad experience i had with her mom and dad (my aunt and uncle).

i know it is wrong now and i feel bad about it now.

She sounds like a really lovely person. And I'm sure one day, she will walk away from the JWs. She certainly isn't a diehard JW, that's for sure, lol.

Draconian Rules for Attending "Special Convention"

british dubs are invited to attend a special convention next summer in dublin , irish republic.

o k, this kind of trip has been done many times before.

however i have never seen such a crude and rigid set of rules that would apply to their own people going on a trip, at their own expense of course.

Was that the 93 convention in Moscow? I went with an Aussie group to Moscow and St Petersburg. We paid an extra $500 for "1st class accommodation" in Moscow but was housed in 3 star accommodation. The refund we received? A measley $100 that was paid a year later.

i just want to also note, this is not even one of crazier things i've seen with these people.

i was at a meeting for field service ok...you know how they will have one guy take the group out, and he will ask questions about presentations and things like that right?

i've been lurking on this forum for over a year, and i thought i'd say a quick hello.. .

i was raised as a jehovah's witness and managed to endure past the encouragement that one receives from age 16 onwards about what is holding me back, and never got baptised.

i figured that making one of the most important decisions of my life requires a lot more thought than people seemed to be giving it, and shouldn't be based on emotion as is quite common.. .

I'm not sure what a university education can give me except a certification confirming that I've learnt something. The information is more important than the certification to me at the moment. What do you think?

It tells your potential employer that you undergone the necessary training/education to learn what your co-competitors for the job, have learnt.

The process of studying for a Dip/BA also teaches you to analyse information objectively. It sounds like you do this already, so attending a college or uni shouldn't be too troublesome for you.

My 18-yr old college freshman nephew has just been cut off for leaving the JWs...

i spoke about him in a previous thread... he's the nicest kid you'll ever meet... smart, humble, shows respect and is very kind to everyone around him... except for one minor thing... you guessed it... he no longer believes in the jw religion.

also, he feels it is simply a place for hopeless people to gather and give each other moral support without actually doing anything productive to better their lives... i won't get into the details on how he arrived at this conclusion... suffice to say, he did not want to be a part of this crowd any longer.. incredibly, when he was a lot younger, he was able to convince his jw father (a po) and his jw mother (my sister) that they should let him go to college when he turns 18 (and help him pay for it!!!).

so they started putting some money away and my nephew has been in college since september!.

I'm so sorry for your nephew, and if anything, his parents have ensured he will NEVER go back to the JWs!

I hope he works something out. A good education is very important thing to achieve. I wish him every success.
